The Farm and Pickin' Strawberries

As summer begins, life in the Lansek Household has changed a bit. Unfortunately due to lack of work Brian has suffered a cut in hours. Looking toward the positive, however, we are enjoying having him home every Friday and after hours grass cutting and lawn work has helped also. We have settled into a nice Friday routine that goes something like this...Daddy and Carter enjoy some one-on-one time while Eli and I concentrate on his speech therapy and then we try to get out do something fun in the afternoons, provided that it is sunny and dry.

This past Friday found us at two local farms. The first, Juniperdale Farms, grows local produce and is also a functioning dairy farm. We went to pick strawberries and pick strawberries we did! When finished we had 4lbs. of delicious berries to enjoy. It should be noted that the boys finished the berries by Saturday morning...yup, that good!

The second farm, Klein Dairy Farm, has cows, chicken, goats, roosters, peacocks and also has a full operating creamery. (great yogurt, cheese and milk) While visiting we met what had to be the friendliest calf on Earth. He loved all of our attention! Carter made a kitty cat friend and delighted in the fact that the feline followed us all over the farm. We saw a male peacock showing off for a female and Eli was busy quieting all the roosters. The best part of the day....the boys got to sit on the tractors and had a blast. There are benefits to knowing the farmer!

And since we finished all of our strawberries, we headed back to Juniperdale on Sunday night with our neighbors to pick some more! This time we came home with 13lbs. ! We froze most of them so we can enjoy long after the local strawberry season is done. Carter and Eli had a great time with Joey and Benjamin! There is nothing better than summer!

Happy Birthday, Uncle Jeven!

Yesterday Uncle Jeven celebrated his 32nd birthday! Hope you had a wonderful day. We love you!

Fred and Barney

My dad did a hauling job recently and found a whole hamster cage set up complete with bedding and food. Carter has been doing very well in the behavior department and also ended the school year on a very high note so he was rewarded with a hamster that he named Fred....Eli's hamster is Barney, of course! They are cute and very small and have preferred to spend their time sleeping so far. We will be sure to keep you updated on how they are settling in.

For the Birds

We have been enjoying the company of some feathered friends lately. In one of my hanging porch baskets a pair of birds has nested and we are awaiting the arrival of the babies. The nest and eggs are quite tiny and we should have hatchlings any day now.
The below pictures were taken last Friday during the all the rain that fell. I was looking out the window and spotted movement in one of my flower beds and then they emerged....a mama Mallard and her 7 ducklings. They had a grand time waddling and quacking as they explored our yard. Oddly enough they avoided our pond and stuck to the flower beds and back yard and then as quickly as they came, they were gone, waddling down the back alley!

Yearly Check-Ups

The boys had their yearly check ups yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised by their excellent behavior. We had to wait a bit for the doctor and they were patient and calm....it was great. So, after a year here is where we are at:

Carter
43 inches tall
38lbs.
Elijah
35 inches tall
25lbs.
Both boys have grown nicely in the past months and are very healthy! Each received one shot (Carter in the arm, Eli in the leg) and neither cried! The nurse was impressed by that! Both boys received compliments on their behavior from the P.A. to the nurse to the receptionists so they were very pleased with themselves, but not as pleased and proud as I was! Way to go on a great visit!
